How to clean baby’s toys? Wooden, fabric, paper, and more.

Inevitably, babies at this age will put everything into their mouths. That’s why it’s crucial to establish a cleaning routine for their toys. As a toy maker, here are our tips for cleaning different kinds of toys.

Wooden toys

The best way to clean Learning Time’s wooden toys is simply by wiping them down with a damp cloth after each session. Don’t wash them under running water as we do not use waterproof varnish in the interest of your child’s health and safety. You should also use disinfectant wipes to do a thorough cleaning every week. We also use non-toxic, water-based paints, so it’s normal to see the color fade a little after long periods of use.

Fabric toys

Plush, blankets, and so on are usually the easiest to clean. Learning Time’s fabric toys are all machine washable and can be air-dried. We don’t advise using a drying machine as some of our soft toys have other materials, like crinkle paper.

Paper and card toys

For slightly older children, we have some books and cards that we include in the kits. All our books are made from thick card material, so they won’t tear easily. You can wipe the books down with a damp cloth if needed.

Plastic toys

Learning Time doesn’t use plastic to make toys. However, most plastic toys should be cleaned using a damp cloth and disinfectant wipes.

If you’re ever unsure about how to clean a toy, the safest way to go is to wipe with a damp cloth. We also recommend doing a deep clean at least once a week, especially when your baby is mouthing everything.
